VILGERTS’ Competition law partner, Jūlija Jerņeva, contributes towards the leading EU competition law enforcement practitioners’ publication

We are pleased to announce our partner, Jūlija Jerņeva, one of Latvia’s influential attorneys specialising in competition law, has recently contributed towards the leading EU competition law enforcement practitioners’ text, providing an insightful report on competition law enforcement in Latvia to date. Jūlija’s contribution focuses on the critical aspects of judicial review in competition law enforcement and provides an in-depth analysis of the current legal landscape in Latvia. The contribution is also heavily welcomed, given the evolving nature of regulatory frameworks and the need for businesses to adapt to new challenges in Latvia.

The contribution aligns with ongoing research as part of the Mapping Competition Law Review project, which undertakes an empirical study of all national judgments reviewing the application of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU and the national equivalent provisions between the entry into force of Regulation 1/2003 in May 2004 and April 2021. The empirical findings are used to map out the judicial review practices across the EU and the UK, comparing their quantitative and qualitative aspects across the various jurisdictions.

Julija’s contribution is included in Judicial Review of Competition Law Enforcement in the EU Member States (Wolters Kluwer). This comprehensive volume offers a detailed examination of competition law enforcement mechanisms across EU member states with the focus on the analyses of the judicial review process. The book delves into topics such as:

  • the role of national courts in competition law enforcement;
  • procedural fairness in competition law cases;
  • the impact of EU law on national enforcement; and
  • a comparative analysis of enforcement across the EU Member States.

For those who are interested to deep dive into this critical area of law, the book is available for purchase here: Judicial Review of Competition Law Enforcement in the EU Member States and the UK | Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory.

VILGERTS is proud of Jūlija’s contribution to the field of Latvian competition law, and her work continues to strengthen the firm’s reputation as a leader in providing cutting-edge Competition law expertise to companies in complex and diverse industries.
